Dragon’s Loyalty Award no. 2

Thank you Mon for my second Dragon award! I’ll call it Eragon, just because. I’ll take any and all  dragon awards as long as they’re not for dragon breath. I know, it doesn’t behoove me to sink so low for a joke. Sigh!

Seven more things about me! Man, this is tough!

1. I am 38 years old, and yes, it feels as old as it sounds.

2. I still have the very first story book I ever got. No, it wasn’t a classic

3. I’ve always been fascinated by blades, and that goes back to before I started cutting

4. I have a thing for wooden furniture (No, Sabiscuit I wasn’t going there)

5. The only reason I didn’t like performing Ophthal surgery (and I did like it, just not in that way) was a ghoulish one.

6. I always have an alcohol related verse or couplet ready at hand. As I mentioned to Kritika, it’s a culture thing. 🙂

7. My first memory of television is of Kapil Dev running to take a catch, not the ’83 Viv Richards one, much earlier. I’m 38, remember?

I’m not nominating anyone, mainly because the people I’d like to give this award to are mostly anti-award and feel frankly embarrassed or worse about this, or have been getting this one by the dozen already. Peace!

About hbhatnagar

I need to fill this up with much better content than I had populated it with earlier. Why I write a blog maybe? I started blogging in 2009 or thereabouts. I was a newly turned atheist and wanted to converse with others of the same persuasion. We're not exactly a big population group in India! It didn't go very well and I sort of lost interest, posting a few things now and then. I got a lot more regular over the last few months and have been posting almost daily since February '15. There were many reasons why I gradually became more regular in posting, but one way or the other, here I am! So this blog has taken shape, being at different points in time my showcase, my comedy club, my art gallery, my book club, my therapist, my close friend, my innermost self....but always my little corner of the world. You are all welcome to visit and I hope you stay awhile! A few points about me because I don't want to lead anyone on(and trust me this does become an issue more often than I'd care to admit). I'm Indian, the brown-skinned variety; if race, ethnicity or skin colour is an issue, you don't have to get to know me any more than what you see on my blog. I'm 40, so if age is an issue, please be informed accordingly. I was a doctor, an ophthalmic surgeon for 10 years before I quit practice.

  3. First of all, I am giving myself an award for correctly guessing your age and I think it’s exceedingly young for someone of your accomplishments. We have a lot in common. I love wooden furniture, too because it’s either antique or handmade, which I love about anything. This is because I grew up in the commonwealth, surrounded by heirlooms. My first reading material was National Geographic because my grandfather got me a subscription when I was born and that happened because I think everyone figured out how to raise children just one minute before my sister was born, five years later. I think I became a voracious reader out of necessity. It was a hard childhood.

    • The medal is yours, it’s shaped like a popped corn in a glass of wine. I like designing stuff and then getting it made by a local carpenter I trust. I usually pick up designs online and bug him to make something based on that. I need more money!
I am an only child so maybe that’s why no one figured out raising kids, I started with abridged classics…

  4. Congratulations, yet again!
I’m okay as long as you sound like a guy in his mid twenties when I call you to say, “Aur batao?” 😀
I too have a thing for wooden furniture. I convinced my mom for Rajasthani wooden design. Yay!

I’m writing one on it 🙂

It’s difficult to believe that you still have your first story book. Amazing!

    • I have no idea what I sound like, but I think my voice is reedier than it sounds in my head. 😀
Now if only I could remember where I put that book, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it hasn’t been “misplaced” either.

      • Hehe. Talk like you’re in your 20s, make jokes, laugh, be lame…that would do. 😀

That’s no big deal. It happens. I put my paintings in the safest place at home and it’s been like 6 months I cannot remember where that safest place is. I wanted to get them framed…. :/

      • Yeah it is where it is, wondering about what happened isn’t going to help. There’s a lot more crap to brood on! 🙂

  8. You’re 38!? 😮 Wowee….can’t judge a writer by how “young” their writing seems to you XD Actually…..almost all writers seem young to me for that matter XD
