Finally upgraded to Windows 10 this morning. The GUI is thankfully not that different from Win 7; I gave 8 a total miss. The settings have been shifted around and things aren’t where you were used to finding them which is always irritating. Any of you have shifted yet? How has your experience been?

I need to fill this up with much better content than I had populated it with earlier. Why I write a blog maybe? I started blogging in 2009 or thereabouts. I was a newly turned atheist and wanted to converse with others of the same persuasion. We're not exactly a big population group in India! It didn't go very well and I sort of lost interest, posting a few things now and then.
I got a lot more regular over the last few months and have been posting almost daily since February '15. There were many reasons why I gradually became more regular in posting, but one way or the other, here I am! So this blog has taken shape, being at different points in time my showcase, my comedy club, my art gallery, my book club, my therapist, my close friend, my innermost self....but always my little corner of the world. You are all welcome to visit and I hope you stay awhile!
A few points about me because I don't want to lead anyone on(and trust me this does become an issue more often than I'd care to admit).
I'm Indian, the brown-skinned variety; if race, ethnicity or skin colour is an issue, you don't have to get to know me any more than what you see on my blog.
I'm 40, so if age is an issue, please be informed accordingly.
I was a doctor, an ophthalmic surgeon for 10 years before I quit practice.
Is it just me, or is Win 10 bit slower than 7? Interface is at least better than 8, which is good!

The boot up process is slower, and some apps (read non Microsoft) load more slowly. It might improve with updates, I hope.

I just put the request in, but this computer has a very small hard drive and not a lot of speed and I have to go to admin to get admission to download everything. I have the password, but I wish he didn’t set it up this way or take away the faster machine with a Terabyte of space or whatever. I can’t say much since it was free to a point, but now that we aren’t talking I can’t go to him if this messes up or maybe it won’t be able to upgrade anyhow. I hope I am not doing the wrong thing.

You can download the upgrade to a pen drive and install from there but that’s a little technical…

I don’t do technical anymore since I am brain dead. Used to be computer savvy once upon a time. π

Upgrade done last weekend. I’m still going through the hangover after duly celebrating the comeback of the Start menu π

Cheers to that! π

I am afraid to upgrade. I don’t have my computer friend to fix whatever gets messed up. I am still getting used to 7. I just got it a few months ago.

There’s nothing to be afraid of, and if you’re not used to Win 7 as yet, it’s better that you get used to Win 10, that is the medium term future for the PC platform.

I upgraded a couple of weeks ago, have not had problem with the w 10. π Prior to that, I had used iMac for 10 years. I didn’t like their op system, it didn’t not make any sense….

I’ve had a few problems with drivers. It’s never been this bad with any upgrade but I’m almost sorted now.
And another mac-hater! How I love to find a kindred soul! π

I started with a W8 PC, which was a big mistake and the new W10 is amazing in comparison. The E browser can be a little slow to begin with, but it gets better. I tend to switch between E, IE and Chrome because some videos, like youtube, don’t play well on E. My advice is to spend time taking the tutorial, it doesn’t take long, but helps

Thanks. I don’t go to tutorials, it hurts my geek ego. But I hated 8 with a vengeance, and I’ve used every MS product from Win 95 onward, including ME and Vista! π

As someone who’s been on the Insider program (we were given alpha builds to test), I can pretty much say that Windows 10 is going to the best Win OS ever. It’s not like we have a choice anyway, Windows 10 is going to be the last OS. From now on, it’s just updates. There’s a slight learning curve, but I’m sure you will start to like it. Also, check out the store. there are some nice apps including the recently released Saavn which works super fast and better than the website!

I hated the Metro interface and I don’t like the flatter icons and fonts, plus it takes longer to load than Win 7 did, but let’s see. Haven’t checked out the win marketplace yet. π

But everyone is moving towards “flat” these days. Take Android Lollipop or the latest iOS. It’s the next big shift, gone are the days of 3D icons and drop shadows. Anyway like I said, give it time. And know that Microsoft is doing this for the greater good π

Everything is moving to wherever it wants to, give me lovely shadows any day! π
And MS never does anything for the “greater good”, it’s just a strategy to preempt Android based tablet/laptop hybrids. π
