Isfahan nisf jahan – “Isfahan is half the world”….Below are the ruins of an ancient Zoroastrian temple in Isfahan.
About hbhatnagar
I need to fill this up with much better content than I had populated it with earlier. Why I write a blog maybe? I started blogging in 2009 or thereabouts. I was a newly turned atheist and wanted to converse with others of the same persuasion. We're not exactly a big population group in India! It didn't go very well and I sort of lost interest, posting a few things now and then.
I got a lot more regular over the last few months and have been posting almost daily since February '15. There were many reasons why I gradually became more regular in posting, but one way or the other, here I am! So this blog has taken shape, being at different points in time my showcase, my comedy club, my art gallery, my book club, my therapist, my close friend, my innermost self....but always my little corner of the world. You are all welcome to visit and I hope you stay awhile!
A few points about me because I don't want to lead anyone on(and trust me this does become an issue more often than I'd care to admit).
I'm Indian, the brown-skinned variety; if race, ethnicity or skin colour is an issue, you don't have to get to know me any more than what you see on my blog.
I'm 40, so if age is an issue, please be informed accordingly.
I was a doctor, an ophthalmic surgeon for 10 years before I quit practice.
yes you are right. Brevity is the way to go. I need to prune – prune and then prune some more
Women cant be brief. Its an oxymoron… see how much I am writing now
Its a great picture anyway
Iran… I have known Persians who mourn for the old days…. but think its a fascinating place to visi

Iran allowed Zoroastrians to practice their ancient religion publicly recently as well. A marvel in a strict Islamic nation.
And, well there’s a time for brevity and a time for eloquence. I don’t think it’s gender specific though.
Might I ask you how to address you though? I can’t exactly call you looney or b****! π

well there now… an eloquent reply. thank you. When It was Persia, although under the Shah, a more enlightened time for its people. Now, not so sure but an improvement. Lets hope and pray
You can use my real name.. Jackie! Although its a little like Pot calling Kettle Black… hbhatnagar, hardly rolls off the tongue!

The Shah was quite the despot. Iran was a more open place though.. Small steps still! π
Himanshu, and that isn’t a smooth roll either! π

No it isn’t, maybe I should call you Hadji….it was a play on words. because I thought it was the word for Pilgrim. And you are indeed on a pilgrimage, aren’t you. I was reading Passenger to Teheran and it was used there as a term of endearment….but then I have just checke dit and read that its an offensive term for Iraqui and then thought I might offend you.. which is not my intention.
So from Pilgrim..( Hadji) I shall have to transpose it to ” H” which is a popular cockney name anyway.
Are you okay now….

Hadji is a term of respect for a muslim who has completed the Haj, the fundamental pilgrimage for Muslims. I’m sure someone would be offended by the term being used for an atheist, and a Hindu at that! π
H, HB, Dr H, or anything that suits you.

Dr H. That has a sense of gravitas. Talking of Hindus… I have just returned from Baku Caves. I hate those monkeys

You need to write more. You whet my appetite and then nothing! Why is it only half of the world? Where is the other half? Explain……
Is it under that picture, it is the middle of the earth. Persia eh?
Interesting times especially now that we have started flights there again

Brevity is the soul of wit, and blogging! π
As for why they call it half the world, maybe they don’t want to offend Mecca and Baghdad…..India always had flight to Iran, but I don’t know anyone who travels there..
