Five years and a half I’ve been driving to and from work in my car on a national highway, one hour or more each way. Indian highways and known for the sheer daredevilry of the people who cruise on it. It’s a lawless, chaotic mix of truck drivers high on opium, bus drivers high on what can be called one step above moonshine, careening taxi cabs driven by frustrated F1 racers, tractors driven leisurely by bucolic farmers who do not seem to realize they’ve wandered off their fields, cows who apparently believe in their sacredness more than Hindus do, cyclists whose fathers apparently owned these stretches in the days gone by, an odd assortment of bullock carts, ox carts, camel carts, and, finally, personal car drivers driven by anger at the conditions on the roads. And let’s not forget the roads themselves, narrowing to two lanes and widening to six lanes at whim, random old bridge railings incorporated into the middle of the road, endless construction work and even more endless (I know that’s technically incorrect) road repairs, and new potholes whenever we get a little rain!
Less than two weeks to go I thought, getting into my car this morning. Had to go and jinx it.
Somebody in an apparently life or death emergency tried to overtake me from the the wrong side. I still gave him room, I was running on time so I was kinda relaxed. But even then the guy hit my car while overtaking me. Scratched the side and took the front bumper off. Didn’t even bother to stop, just ran away. I hope the bloody bumper gets repaired or I’ll spend more money and time than I’d like to getting it changed.
There went my record!
What an idiotic driver and the cheek just to buzz off. Glad your ok, though

I used to love driving! The new workplace is much nearer and there are no National Highways to cross, so I should be safer.
Thanks for caring. There were three of us in my car and no one got a scratch. π

I’m safe as long as no one cuts in front of me. π
But yes, all of us got out of it unscathed. X
